In Memory of Ulrich Seydel

Dear IEIIS Members,

We’re writing today to share word of the passing of Ulrich Seydel. After a long, exhausting and brave battle against cancer Ulrich died on 22 May 2019; his funeral will be 11 June 2019. To combine thoughts from others who’ve shared, he was a proud and dedicated scientist, a strong supporter of the IEIIS, and a wonderful friend who deserved fully his status as an Honorary Life Member of the IEIIS. Ulrich was a pillar of the IES/IEIIS from the early days on and served the society in many ways. He was council member, Editor-in-Chief of the IEIIS Journal Innate Immunity, and an active contributor at the IEIIS Conferences. He was a mentor and friend from the early days of working on endotoxin and I think many of us have learned through him about the role of physico-chemistry of endotoxin. He was a friendly and humorous person, supported many students in their scientific careers, and was always committed to science.

Those desiring to honor Ulrichs Seydels life and work by a donation to a charity fund are encouraged to visit: https://trauer-anzeigen.de/traueranzeige/ulrich-seydel

With sympathy to his family and those of you who had the honor of working with him.
