Theresa L. Gioannini Women in Science Travel Award

Description

IEIIS is honored to present travel awards in memory of Dr. Theresa L.Gioannini: scientist, teacher, mentor, wife, and mother extraordinaire. This award was established and first presented in 2014.

Theresa was a great person, scientist and friend of many, who sadly passed away in 2014, 64 years old, way too early. For those of you who did not know her, she worked closely on details of LPS interactions and signaling via CD14, TLR4-MD2 and other molecules through many years, in a wife-husband team with Jerry Weiss. These studies really advanced the field in terms of understanding the biology of these signaling complexes. Last year Jerry created a foundation in her memory, the foundation provides support for outstanding women in science for scientific meetings. This is done in cooperation with the International Endotoxin and Innate Immunity Society (IEIIS).

The awards will be used to support the attendance and participation of women graduate students, post-docs, and junior faculty at IEIIS-sponsored meetings.
